On 11 November 2017, the Day of the University of Szeged a Senate meeting was held in the University’s rectorate Building where several award and recognitions were given.

Bert Sakmann, the Director of Education of the Szeged Scientist Academy received the honorable Doctor Honoris Causa title. The German Nobel Laureate spent 3 days in Szeged as the guest of the University’s Rector. During his stay he took part in the scientific opening of the ELI-ALPS research Institute and also paid a visit to the Bethlen Gábor Calvinistic Grammar School of Hódmezővásárhely. Throughout his informal ’class’ with the students he talked about his current researches, his work and goals at the Szeged Scientist Academy, and also shared details about his personal life.
